About Varuni and Minesh

410_Varuni-92_92Time-honored rituals, stunning saris and a treasure trove of gold make this Indian wedding a delight for 1,100 guests.  At $1.6 million, Varuni and Minesh’s wedding has one of the highest budgets ever on Platinum Weddings.   The festivities begin with the Mehndi held at Varuni’s father’s house followed by the “Gowri Pooja” ceremony the next day which involves the bride receiving a set of “prayer” items from her family to send her off to her new family.  That night’s rehearsal dinner held at the Rosenberg Skyroom has a $300,000 budget for 700 guests and will be followed by the Satak ceremony.  Varuni will have 10 changes of dresses and saris over the four day event and on the day of the ceremony and reception will wear $300,000 in 24 carat gold bridal jewelry, which includes a gold waist belt, four gold necklaces at different lengths, gold bell-like earrings and a long golden hairpiece that will flow down her back.  The bride’s mother passed away six years ago and in addition to over 20,000 crystals, the specially made Mandap will be adorned with fifteen of her mother’s saris, including her wedding sari, in order to bring her presence into the wedding and ceremony.  Their twenty-three person wedding party will be a kaleidoscope of color thanks to their traditional Indian attire.  An added punch of color for this Platinum Wedding will come from some of the ladies who will be carrying peacock feather bouquets.
