  1. So I just got engaged Saturday! My fiance and I are getting married in the summer of 2011. I have 16 months... is it too early to start planning? What do I do first? I'd appreciate any suggestions/advice!

  2. I just got engaged as well I think the earlier u plan the less stress!

  3. Not too earlier.

    1) Set the date and book the venue first according to how many guest you intend to invite.

    2) And then book the photographer as many (like myself) book a year in advance.

    3) find your Dress & shoes next.

item 2 or 3 can flip

    4) Hair/Makeup, Caterer if the venue does not provide one.
    5) Coordinator if wanted/needed.
    6) florist
    7) cake (if the venue doesn't provide one)
    8) DJ/Officiant/Musicans
    9) save-the-date
    10) invitations
    11)Favors

And then all the little things. Good Luck.

  4. there are wedding sites that help with planing your wedding. http://theknot.com is one. I also aree though that planing ahead helps releave stress. Biggest thing is to enjoy planning it, if you feel like you are overwhelmed then get help.

  5. There are alot of wedding sites that have check lists and stuff.
No, u are NOT starting to early, the earlier the better, because honestly 16 months will fly by u inna second. I got engaged 9/2008 and now my wedding is June 5th, 2010. I swear it seemed like just yesterday I got engaged, lol

  6. I'm with Josh Wong. Planning earlier is better. Also, many reception halls offer 2010 prices for those getting married in 2011 with a deposit and contract. You don't have to have a final count now, but of course you can give an estimate. The first thing I would do is have a pow wow with fiance and parents. Who's paying for what? With a budget you will have an idea of what you're spending and what you can/cannot afford. Here's my checklist:
    1) MAKE A LIST OF GUESTS FROM BOTH SIDES

    2) WHAT'S YOUR BUDGET? WHAT'S YOUR FIANCE'S BUDGET? HAVE A NICE DINNER WITH RESPECTIVE PARENTS AND FIND OUT IF/HOW THEY ARE WILLING TO CONTRIBUTE.

    3) WHAT'S YOUR WEDDING STYLE? Traditional? Modern? Beach? Destination? Hometown caterer? Fancy? Casual? THIS WOULD DETERMINE YOUR DRESS STYLE.

    4) BRIDAL REGISTRY: If you guys need a bunch of home items, this would be a great idea. I recommend Macy's, JC Penney and William Sonoma. This way people will give gifts for your engagement and your wedding and it will be what you want. This is fun -- shopping with your beau and other people pay for it!

    4) HOST AN ENGAGEMENT PARTY. IT SHOULD BE A CASUAL AFFAIR WITH YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY, FRIENDS. A SUNDAY BRUNCH WOULD BE NICE!

    5) I'd do some shopping for a wedding planner. If you feel lost and confused, they can get you up to snuff. They also have a bunch of vendors that they work with, so the details of food, flowers, music, etc. would come highly recommended. The average planner charges $2,000, and well worth it. It leaves much less stress on you!

    Good luck.

    Best,
